On 6–7 July 2026, the first annual Global Dialogue on AI Governance convened at the Palexpo Convention Centre in Geneva, alongside the ITU AI for Good Global Summit. Established by UN General Assembly resolution A/RES/79/325, adopted by consensus in August 2025, the Dialogue brings together all 193 Member States with the private sector, civil society, academia and the technical community. It is not a negotiating forum: each session ends with a co-chairs' summary, and the aim is to build shared understanding over time. The first session was co-chaired by Ambassadors Egriselda López of El Salvador and Rein Tammsaar of Estonia, and drew more than 3,000 participants from 163 countries. The second Dialogue is scheduled for 3–4 May 2027 in New York, a few weeks after the Future We Want Annual Summit. Why it matters: for the first time, every UN Member State has a standing, inclusive table for AI governance, even if binding rules are still far away.
